Military Service
First Tour
Parrish enlisted as a private in Capt. Hollet’s New York Company in April 1779. He was only thirteen years old. For five months he served guard duty in Westchester, New York. Beginning in November he volunteer for one month in Capt. George Laine’s Company of Col. Hopkins’s New York Regiment.
Second Tour
In April 1782 he reenlisted for a nine-month tour. For about a fortnight he served in Capt. White’s Company of Col. Welsenfelt’s New York Regiment, where he performed garrison and defense duties in the Mohawk Valley and the Hudson Highlands. The remainder of his tour was served in Capt. Johnson’s Company of Col. Van Cortland’s New York Regiment. Parrish received his final; discharge in January 1783 at Snake Hill, about three miles in the rear of Newburgh.
